Best AI Video Clippers (2026): Turn Long Videos and Podcasts Into Captioned Shorts

TL;DR / Key Takeaways

  • Clippers charge per minute of source video, so compare cost per source minute, not clips.
  • WayinVideo is about $0.01 a source minute on annual Pro; reap about $0.017; OpusClip Pro about $0.048.
  • WayinVideo's free tier exports without a watermark (720p, links only), unlike OpusClip, reap and Vizard.
  • OpusClip Pro exports clips to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve; Simon Says does subtitles for editors.
  • Pay monthly first: annual deals are steep and WayinVideo payments are non-refundable.

Short answer: for turning a long video or podcast into captioned short clips in 2026, WayinVideo is the cheapest per minute of source video and its free plan exports without a watermark; reap suits creators and developers who want captions, dubbing and an API on a $9.99-a-month plan; OpusClip is the established default, and the one here whose Pro plan exports clips to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve; Videotto is for people who want to direct the edit in plain language and get motion graphics; and Simon Says is the pick if you need accurate transcripts and subtitles inside your editing software rather than viral clips. Updated November 3, 2026.

How we checked: plans, prices and limits come from each vendor's own pricing and help pages, read November 3, 2026. We did not run the same video through every tool, so this guide compares plans, prices and features, not clip quality. Prices are in US dollars and change often; annual prices in particular are frequently promotional, so check the vendor before you pay.

The number that matters: cost per minute of source video

Most clippers bill on the length of the video you upload, not on how many clips come out. A 60-minute podcast costs 60 minutes whether you keep three clips or thirty. So the fair way to compare them is the price of one minute of source video on each plan, which we worked out from the published plan price and the minutes it includes.

Tool and planPriceSource minutes includedCost per source minute
WayinVideo Pro, billed yearly$9.58/mo ($114.96/yr)12,000 a yearabout $0.01
WayinVideo Starter, monthly$13.99/mo500 a monthabout $0.028
reap Creator, billed yearly$9.99/mo ($119.88/yr)600 a month (10 h)about $0.017

OpusClip Pro, billed yearly$14.50/mo ($174/yr)300 a monthabout $0.048
Videotto Pro, billed yearly$12/mo ($144/yr)200 a month$0.06
OpusClip Starter, monthly only$15/mo150 a month$0.10
Simon Says Starter, billed yearly$15/user/mo120 a month (2 h)$0.125 (transcription, not clipping)
Our arithmetic on each vendor's published prices, read November 3, 2026. Credits are counted at 1 per source minute, as each vendor states.

Two caveats. WayinVideo's help center says AI clipping costs 1 credit per input minute, but a comparison FAQ on its pricing page says 2; if 2 applies, double its figures (still the cheapest). And its pricing page showed a 65%-off countdown banner when we read it, so the annual prices may be a promotion. Klap and Submagic do not price by the minute at all: Klap charges per clip produced and Submagic per finished video, so they are in the second table instead.

If the goal is clips you can post without paying, WayinVideo's free exports carry no watermark, which OpusClip, reap and Vizard's free plans do not offer; you get roughly 100 minutes of source video once, at 720p, and you have to paste a link (YouTube, Twitch, Zoom, Google Drive and others) rather than upload a file. OpusClip and reap give a monthly allowance but watermark it, which makes them trials rather than working tiers.

Where people are going: Stork's search-traffic data

Stork pulled estimated Google search traffic for each tool's domain from DataForSEO Labs on November 2, 2026. These are estimates of search visits, not users, but the direction is clear. WayinVideo went from about 217,000 a month in July 2026 to about 644,000 in October. reap went from about 2,600 to about 29,000, Videotto from about 400 to about 9,300, and Simon Says from about 22,000 to about 62,000. Over the same months OpusClip held roughly flat (about 675,000 to 655,000), Submagic was flat at about 215,000, and Vizard (about 566,000 to 314,000), Descript (about 301,000 to 156,000) and Klap (about 31,000 to 21,000) fell. In US Google Ads data, which runs to September 2026, "auto captions" gets about 2,400 searches a month and "ai clip maker" about 1,900.

WayinVideo: the cheapest clips, and a watermark-free free plan

WayinVideo finds clip-worthy moments in a long video and cuts them into vertical shorts with a viral score on each. Its Find Moments search returns clips that match a description, such as a quote or a person, so you are not stuck with whatever the AI picks, and its AI Notes side writes a summary, transcript and mind map of the same video. Starter is $13.99 a month or $4.99 billed yearly for 500 credits a month and 1080p; Pro is $26.99 or $9.58 yearly for 1,000 credits, 4K, scheduled posting to 10 accounts and two seats. Credits do not roll over, payments are non-refundable, and API access is listed under Enterprise only. On Trustpilot it scored 3.0 from only 7 reviews, and most complaints are about credits running out faster than expected. See WayinVideo pricing.

reap: captions, dubbing and an API on the cheap plan

reap clips long videos with animated captions (50+ presets in 100+ languages) and auto-reframing, and lets you tell it which topics or hooks to look for. It also dubs into 80+ languages and outputs romanized captions such as Hinglish and Arabizi, which few clippers offer. Creator is $24 a month or $9.99 billed yearly for 10 hours of clipping, 10 hours of captions and 2 hours of dubbing a month, 1080p without a watermark. Every paid plan includes a REST API, CLI and MCP server (docs), so you can run it from n8n, Zapier or an AI agent without an enterprise contract. Voice cloning, filler-word and noise removal are still listed as coming soon, and AppSumo reviewers say clip start and end points often need trimming. See reap pricing.

OpusClip: the default, with Premiere and Resolve export

OpusClip is the best-known clipper and still the one with the most search traffic in this group. Its pricing page says 1 credit equals 1 minute of video processing. Free gives 60 credits a month, clips up to 1080p with a watermark, no editing, and clips that can no longer be exported after 3 days. Starter is $15 a month, monthly only, for 150 credits and removes the watermark. Pro is $29 monthly or $14.50 billed yearly ($174 a year) for 300 credits that roll over for two months, two seats, a social scheduler, limited API access, and export to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. That last one matters if an editor finishes your clips: WayinVideo, reap and Videotto do not list an editable timeline export.

Videotto: describe the edit, get motion graphics

Videotto is built around Otto, an AI agent you direct in plain language: it proposes moments, cuts them vertical, writes captions, removes dead air and adds motion graphics such as animated charts and big-number reveals. You can even sketch on a frame to show what you want. Pro is $20 a month or $12 billed yearly for 200 credits; one credit covers a minute of source video for clipping, but 200 credits cover only about 13 minutes of motion graphics. There is no free plan on its pricing page, the detailed editor is desktop-only, and we found no independent user reviews yet.

Simon Says: transcripts and subtitles that land in your timeline

Simon Says is not a viral-clip finder. It transcribes, translates and subtitles in 100 languages and exports straight into Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid and DaVinci Resolve with frame-accurate timecode, plus SRT, WebVTT and broadcast CEA-608/708 captions. Pay as you go is $15 an hour with no subscription; Starter is $15 per user a month billed yearly ($20 monthly) for 2 hours a month. An offline, on-premise edition exists for confidential footage. It belongs in this list for the caption half of the job: if you cut clips yourself and need correct subtitles, it is the specialist. See Simon Says pricing.

The others: Descript, Submagic, Klap and Vizard

  • Descript: a full text-based audio and video editor whose Create Clips tool picks highlights. Free includes 60 media minutes a month and 720p export; Hobbyist is $16 a month billed yearly ($24 monthly) for 10 media hours and watermark-free 1080p. Best if you want an editor around the clips. Pricing.
  • Submagic: caption-first. Starter is $12 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for 15 videos of up to 2 minutes each, so it suits videos that are already short rather than hour-long podcasts. Pricing.
  • Klap: charges per clip produced. Basic is $14 a month billed yearly for 100 clips (about 14 cents a clip); monthly pricing is not shown. Pricing.
  • Vizard: bills 1 credit per minute of uploaded video, with 60 free credits a month, 720p export and 3-day storage; paid plans add 4K, no watermark and 600-minute uploads. Its pricing page showed no prices when we read it.

How to choose

  • You want to post clips without paying: WayinVideo Free, if your video is online and 720p is enough.
  • You clip several hours a month and want the lowest bill: WayinVideo or reap on annual billing, after a month on monthly billing to check the clips are good.
  • You want to automate clipping from a script, n8n or an AI agent: reap, which includes the API on every paid plan.
  • An editor finishes your clips in Premiere or Resolve: OpusClip Pro.
  • You want explainer-style graphics without a designer: Videotto.
  • You need accurate subtitles inside your editing software: Simon Says.
  • Your videos are already under two minutes: Submagic.

Whichever you pick, pay monthly first. Annual prices are steep discounts (reap and OpusClip roughly halve, WayinVideo showed 65% off), but WayinVideo's payments are non-refundable and none of these vendors publishes how often its clip picker chooses a moment worth posting. Run two or three of your own recordings through the free tier or a single paid month before you commit to a year.
