How it works
- 1Paste text or upload a PDF
Drop in an article, blog post, newsletter or report — or upload a PDF and we’ll pull the text out. Up to about 2,000 words.
- 2Audition voices, then hear a free sample
Tap ▶ to hear each narrator instantly (free), pick your favourite, then we read the opening of your text aloud — also free.
- 3Pay once, download the full MP3
Only when you love it: pay $3.99 to render and download the complete audio file. Keep it forever, listen anywhere — no subscription.
Pay once, keep the file
Most text-to-speech apps are monthly subscriptions, and the popular readers deliberately lock the audio file away. Speechify makes you buy a separate Studio plan just to export an MP3; NaturalReader gates downloads behind its higher tier; the ElevenLabs Reader app won’t let you export at all. Article to Audio works the opposite way: you turn one article into a real MP3, pay $3.99 for it, and download it to own. No monthly fee, no lock-in, nothing to cancel — just the file. Convert a lot? A small prepaid credit balance drops it to $2.99 each (and credits never expire).
What you can use it for
Turn the articles and newsletters piling up in your tabs into audio for the car, train or walk.
Save long reads as MP3s and listen while you cook, clean or work out.
Hear papers, PDFs and notes read aloud — easier on the eyes, better for retention.
Hear your own writing read back to catch awkward phrasing before you publish.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it free?
- You can generate a free sample of any text — the AI reads the opening so you can hear the voice and quality. Downloading the complete MP3 costs $3.99 (or $2.99 from prepaid credits). There is no subscription.
- How is this different from Speechify or an audiobook app?
- Those are monthly subscriptions, and most won't let you export and keep the audio file. Here you pay once for one article and download the MP3 to own — no recurring fee, nothing to cancel.
- What does it cost?
- $3.99 to download one article's full MP3, or $2.99 each if you keep a small prepaid credit balance. You only pay for what you turn into audio.
- Can I hear the voices before I pay?
- Yes — tap ▶ next to any voice to hear it instantly, free, before you do anything. Then we’ll read the opening of your own text in your chosen voice — also free. You only pay once you’re happy and want the complete MP3.
- Can I use a PDF?
- Yes. Upload a PDF and we’ll extract the text for you (works on text PDFs; scanned-image PDFs won’t work — paste the text instead). You can also just paste from anywhere.
- How long can the text be?
- Up to about 12,000 characters (roughly 2,000 words, or 8–10 minutes of audio) per file. Paste a long article in one go, or split a book into chapters.
- What voices are available?
- Several natural male and female English narrators, each with a free ▶ preview. The first is our recommended audiobook voice.
- What format do I get?
- A standard MP3 that plays on any phone, computer or player. Download it and listen offline anywhere.
- Is my text private?
- Your text is processed securely to create the audio and is never shared or sold. Samples and files are automatically deleted after a couple of weeks.
- Do I need an account?
- Yes — a free Google sign-in, which gives you free daily samples and keeps your downloads and credit balance in one place.
