overview

What Anara does

Anara keeps a persistent library of your papers and data and answers questions across it, with each claim tied to the passage it came from so you can check it in one click. You choose whether it answers from your files, the web, or both. Its research agent can also search over 300 million academic papers and science databases such as PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov, reading full text where available. You build the library by uploading files, importing by DOI, PMID or URL, or connecting Zotero and Mendeley; Pro adds OCR for scanned documents and connectors for Google Drive, Notion and OneDrive.

Beyond chat, Anara turns a folder into a table with one row per paper and cited cells (exportable to CSV or Excel), checks a draft against its sources, and formats citations, exporting to Word, LaTeX or BibTeX. It runs on the web, on Mac, on iPhone and iPad, inside Microsoft Word, and from AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, and there is an API for paper search. Anara was previously called Unriddle.

Yearly billing saves 20% (for example Pro: $192 a year instead of $240). Usage covers chat, editing, extraction, imports, media and API requests, and stronger models use more. On Free it refreshes daily; on paid plans it resets 7 days after you first use it. When it runs out, owners and admins can buy credits from $5 to $1,000 with optional auto-reload; web credits expire after 12 months, while credit packs bought in the iOS app do not. There is no student discount. Refunds: a 7-day grace period from the first payment.

best for

Who Anara is best for

Anara suits graduate students, academics and industry scientists (biotech, medtech, regulatory) who work across many papers and need to check each claim against its source, especially for literature reviews and evidence tables.

If you mainly need to find papers and get a quick consensus, Elicit and Consensus focus on search and systematic review. For a free general-purpose notebook over your own sources, Google's NotebookLM offers more output formats. For mapping citation networks, compare ResearchRabbit.

what users say

What users say

Effortless Academic's review praises the traceable citations and the library-only setting for reducing invented references, but notes repeated citations on broad prompts, text-only outputs compared with NotebookLM, and a limited free tier; the author promotes a personal Anara discount code. Dupple's review calls the $20 Pro tier competitive and recommends starting there rather than on Free, while noting it can oversimplify interpretive arguments. On Trustpilot, Anara has a TrustScore of 2.4 from 13 reviews, with complaints focused on billing after cancellation and refunds.
