TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- Eleven Music writes full songs, with vocals and lyrics or instrumental only, from a text prompt; tracks run from 3 seconds to 5 minutes.
- It costs about 900 credits per minute in the app, so Free covers about 11 minutes a month and Starter ($6) about 33.
- The Music API is for paid plans and costs $0.15 per minute.
- Free is personal use with attribution, Starter is commercial but no streaming, Creator and up can distribute to streaming services.
- Film, TV, radio and studio games are excluded on every self-serve plan; they need Enterprise Music.
Short answer: Eleven Music is the AI music generator inside ElevenLabs. You describe a song (genre, mood, instruments, structure, lyrics) and it generates a full track with vocals or an instrumental, from 3 seconds up to 5 minutes, which you can then edit section by section. It uses about 900 credits per minute in the app (about 33 minutes a month on the $6 Starter plan) or $0.15 a minute on the API. Free is personal use only; Starter is commercial without streaming; Creator ($22) and up may release to streaming services.
How we checked: product details come from the Eleven Music page, the music docs and product guide; prices from the pricing and API pricing pages; licensing from the Eleven Music terms (last updated October 9, 2026). What Eleven Music does
- Full songs from a prompt, with AI-written or your own lyrics, or purely instrumental tracks.
- Structure control: build a song section by section (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro).
- Inpainting: select one section and regenerate just that part, or type instructions like "Make the chorus more energetic".
- Audio Reference: upload about 30 seconds of audio to steer the style and sound of a Music v2 or v2.5 generation. Each reference is screened for copyright, and the result is a new composition, not a remix.
- Vocal styles and Finetunes: keep a consistent voice from a vocal library, or train a Finetune on tracks you own (ready in about 5 to 10 minutes), plus curated Finetunes such as Reggaeton or Afro House Beats.
- Stems: split tracks into 2 or 4 stems on Starter and Creator, up to 6 on Pro.
- Multilingual vocals, including English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese.
Music v2 is the default model in the app and v2.5 is the newest, with better audio quality and prompt adherence per ElevenLabs. Music v1 stays available for a transition period and remains the API default for now. ElevenLabs also runs a Music Marketplace where creators publish tracks and earn when others license them.
How to make a song, step by step
- 1. Open Music in the ElevenLabs app.
- 2. Write a prompt: genre, mood, instruments, tempo and, if you want, lyrics. ElevenLabs' own example reads like "Alternative R&B, deep bass and electronic guitar, 160bpm, in the second verse transition to latin reggaeton".
- 3. Pick the model, the number of variants and a duration (a fixed length such as 30 seconds or 1 minute, or Auto).
- 4. Generate, then refine: edit lyrics, regenerate a section, or add a bridge or solo.
- 5. Download, or share a link. The cost of each generation is visible before you click Generate.
ElevenLabs' tip for control: start with a short generation, such as a 30-second intro, then extend it section by section.
Length and credits per minute
| Plan | Monthly price | Credits | Music minutes | Tracks (ElevenLabs estimate) | Listed extra minute |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 10,000 | about 11 | 3 to 5 | $0.33 |
| Starter | $6 | 30,000 | about 33 | 8 to 16 | $0.18 |
| Creator | $22 | 121,000 | about 134 | 34 to 67 | $0.16 |
| Pro | $99 | 600,000 | about 667 | 167 to 333 | $0.15 |
Each generation runs from 3 seconds to 5 minutes, per the music docs and the API pricing page (one product FAQ says 10 minutes; the 5-minute figure is the one ElevenLabs repeats). The cost depends on the length and the number of variants you ask for, so four variants of a 2-minute song spend roughly four times the credits of one.
On the API, music costs $0.15 per minute on every paid plan; the Music API is not available on Free. Endpoints cover compose, streaming, composition plans (structured JSON), inpainting, stem separation, video-to-music and Finetunes. Our ElevenLabs API guide explains keys and limits.
Commercial licensing by plan, as ElevenLabs states it
ElevenLabs says Eleven Music was built with labels, publishers and artists and is cleared for broad commercial use, but the rights depend on your tier. From the music terms' commercial rights table:
| Plan | Who may use it | Streaming distribution | Attribution | Monthly download limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Individuals | Not permitted | Required (credit Eleven Music) | Downloads not permitted |
| Starter ($6) | Individuals | Not permitted | Not required | 30 minutes |
| Creator ($22) | Individuals | Permitted | Not required | 250 minutes |
| Pro ($99) | Individuals | Permitted | Not required | 500 minutes, high-quality downloads |
| Scale ($299) | Individuals or organizations under 10 employees | Permitted | Not required | 1,500 minutes |
| Business ($990) | Individuals or organizations under 50 employees | Permitted | Not required | 4,000 minutes |
| Enterprise Music | Any | Permitted | Custom | Custom |
- Film, TV, radio and studio games are excluded on every self-serve plan, Free through Business. Only Enterprise Music permits all online and offline commercial use.
- Indie games are not studio games: the terms define an indie game as one that has earned under $500,000 since release, from a developer whose games earned under $1,000,000 in its last financial year. A game that outgrows that has 60 days to move to a plan that permits studio-game use.
- Ownership: as between you and ElevenLabs, you keep all rights in your input and output.
- Platform rules are on you: you must follow streaming services' AI labelling and metadata requirements.
- Company size matters: Free through Pro are licensed to individuals; a company needs Scale (under 10 employees), Business (under 50) or Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions
Is ElevenLabs Music free?
You can generate music on the Free plan, about 11 minutes a month from its 10,000 credits. ElevenLabs' music terms say free output is for individual use, must be credited to Eleven Music when distributed, cannot go to streaming services, and the free tier does not permit downloads.
How long can an Eleven Music song be?
ElevenLabs' docs and API pricing give a minimum of 3 seconds and a maximum of 5 minutes per generation. One product FAQ says 10 minutes, so check the duration control in the app.
Can I upload ElevenLabs music to Spotify?
On Creator ($22) and above, yes: the music terms permit streaming distribution from Creator up. Starter allows commercial use but not streaming distribution, and Free does not allow it. You are responsible for each platform's AI-labelling rules.
Can I use Eleven Music in a film, TV show or game?
Not on self-serve plans. Every tier from Free to Business excludes film, TV, radio and studio games; those uses require Enterprise Music. Small indie games under the terms' revenue limits are treated differently from studio games.
Does Eleven Music have an API?
Yes. Music v1 and v2 (including v2.5) are available through ElevenAPI for paid subscribers at $0.15 per minute, with composition plans, streaming, inpainting and stem separation endpoints.
Who owns songs made with Eleven Music?
ElevenLabs' music terms say that, as between you and ElevenLabs, you retain all rights in your input and output. What you may do with the output commercially still depends on your plan.
What languages can Eleven Music sing in?
ElevenLabs names English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese among others, and says Music v2 produces lyrics and vocals that sound native to the language you write in.
