TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- Dubbing v2, the default, covers 90+ languages and dubs each speaker in a clone of their own voice, keeping the background audio.
- Dubbing works on every plan, but dubs made on the Free plan are watermarked with no way to remove it.
- You pay per minute of source media for each target language; Dubbing v2 costs $2.20 a minute on the API, v1 $0.33 with watermark or $0.50 without.
- Speakers are detected automatically, even with overlapping speech; there is no lip sync.
- Dubbing Studio (v1 only) gives clip-level editing but is in maintenance mode; v2 dubs can be edited in the app.
Short answer: ElevenLabs dubbing translates a video or audio file into 90+ languages (on the default Dubbing v2 model) and voices each speaker with a clone of their own voice, keeping the original music and effects. It works on every plan, but Free dubs are always watermarked. You pay per source minute for each language: on the API, $2.20 a minute for Dubbing v2, or $0.33 (watermarked) to $0.50 a minute for v1. Automatic dubbing is the default; the older Dubbing Studio gives clip-by-clip control.
How we checked: details come from the ElevenLabs dubbing page, the dubbing overview, the product guide, the Dubbing Studio guide, the dubbing help center and the pricing and API pricing pages, all checked on elevenlabs.io on November 1, 2026. What ElevenLabs dubbing does
- Translates and re-voices speech while keeping each speaker's identity, pitch and tone through automatic voice cloning.
- Detects speakers automatically, including overlapping speech.
- Keeps background audio, so music and effects stay without remixing.
- Localizes, not just translates: Dubbing v2 adapts phrasing so it sounds natural to native listeners, and aligns starts and stops with the original.
- Works from files or links: upload, or paste a YouTube, TikTok or other URL.
Dubbing v2 works from the original audio rather than a transcript, which ElevenLabs says is how tone and emotion carry across languages. A Speaker similarity setting (0 to 10, default 7) trades resemblance to the original voice against natural delivery in the target language; higher values can also carry over more of the original accent. ElevenLabs does not offer lip sync in Dubbing.
How to dub a video, step by step
- 1. In ElevenLabs, open Dubbing in the navigation menu.
- 2. Upload a video or audio file, or choose Paste URL for YouTube, TikTok and similar links.
- 3. Pick one or more target languages. You are charged for each language you select.
- 4. Click Speaker similarity to adjust how closely the dub mimics the original speaker.
- 5. Generate. The app shows the cost and asks you to confirm.
- 6. Download the finished dub from your list. To fix a line, edit the transcript or translation and regenerate just that segment.
ElevenLabs says dubbed video is a high-quality preview, usually 1080p, not a production master, and audio is at most stereo, so 5.1 mixes are not preserved. For production, download the dubbed audio and lay it over your original video.
Languages
Dubbing v2 lists 90+ languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu, with dialect options for English (US, UK, Australia, Canada), Spanish (Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chile), French (France, Canada), Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Arabic (Egypt) and Chinese (Taiwan). Dubbing v1 supports the Eleven v3 language set without dialect tags. (The API pricing page still says 29 languages for v1; the language list in the help center is the more current source.)
Credits and price per minute
Dubbing is charged per minute of source media, for each target language. So a 10-minute video dubbed into three languages is billed as 30 minutes.
| Plan | Monthly price | Dubbing v2 minutes | v1 minutes, with watermark | v1 minutes, no watermark |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | about 0.4 | 5 | not available (Free dubs are always watermarked) |
| Starter | $6 | about 2 | 15 | 0 listed |
| Creator | $22 | about 9 | 61 | 40 |
| Pro | $99 | about 44 | 300 | 200 |
- App credit rates (v1): automatic dubbing 2,000 credits a minute with watermark or 3,000 without; Dubbing Studio 5,000 with watermark or 10,000 without.
- Listed extra-minute prices: Dubbing v2 about $2.70 on Starter, $2.45 on Creator and $2.23 on Pro; watermarked v1 $0.40, $0.36 and $0.33.
- API rates (all plans): Dubbing v2 $2.20 a minute; v1 $0.33 with watermark, $0.50 without.
- API billing detail: creating a project prepays one language; each extra language is charged when queued. Failed preparation and failed extra languages are refunded.
v2 costs several times more per minute than v1, so for long videos where voice resemblance matters less, v1 is the budget choice. More on plans and rollover in our ElevenLabs pricing guide.
Watermark rules
- Free plan: dubs are automatically watermarked, with no option to remove it.
- Paid plans: you can produce dubs without a watermark. The pricing tables also list a cheaper watermarked v1 option, and the v1 API has a watermark switch.
- Starter: its column lists 0 included minutes of unwatermarked v1 dubbing; Creator includes 40 and Pro 200.

Dubbing Studio also lets you add voiceover tracks, generate sound effects on an SFX track and upload music beds. On Dubbing v2, editing transcripts and regenerating audio through the API requires an Enterprise plan, though creating and downloading dubs via the API works on all plans. For broadcast work, ElevenLabs Productions offers human-verified dubbing.
