TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- The only builder that checked its own access rules.
- Admin page redirects signed-out visitors; no public staff sign-up.
- Listed every detail it invented in the first build.
- Slowest on the harder brief: about 9 minutes.
- Free credits ran low fast; Pro is $25 a month.
Verdict: Lovable was the most careful of the three AI app builders we tested in depth. It told us exactly what it had invented, asked before connecting third-party accounts, and was the only one to check its own security: signed-out visitors and non-staff accounts blocked. It was also the slowest on the harder brief, and the free plan was down to "0.68 free build credits left today" afterwards. Tested October 30 and 31, 2026.
How we tested: on October 30 and 31, 2026 we used the free plan in Chrome (US). The builder got the same one-page coffee-roaster brief and edit request as in our six-builder test, then a harder brief: "Add a second page called Wholesale, linked from the navigation, with an inquiry form for cafes (name, business name, email, estimated pounds per month) that saves each submission. Then add staff sign-in with email and password, and a staff-only admin page that lists newsletter signups and wholesale inquiries. Visitors who are not signed in must not be able to see the admin page." We then checked the result ourselves: we submitted a test inquiry, looked for it in the builder's own database or admin page, and opened the admin page signed out. We did not create staff accounts or publish the site. Ember & Oak is a made-up business.
Lovable at a glance
| What we checked | Result |
|---|---|
| Time to a one-page site | Under 3 minutes, with an AI-generated hero photo |
| Newsletter form | Not stored at first; it said so and offered to add storage |
| Edit: new headline and real map | Asked to connect a Google Maps account; after we skipped, used a free embed |
| Wholesale page, sign-in and admin | About 9 minutes including 1 clarifying question; our test inquiry was stored |
| Admin page signed out | Redirects to a staff sign-in page with no public sign-up |
| Free plan | Daily build credits; 0.68 left after our tests |
| Cheapest paid plan | Pro $25/month: 100 credits, custom domains, no badge |
The first build: candid about what it made up
Lovable generated its own hero photo and finished the one-page site in under three minutes. Its summary had a section titled "Details I made up" listing the drink names and prices, the hours, the address and "Est. 2019", and it said plainly that "the signup form doesn't save emails yet". No other builder was this explicit.
For the edit, Lovable first asked to connect a Google Maps Platform account for the whole workspace. We skipped it, and Lovable switched to Google's key-free embed, added an "Open in Maps" link and reported a clean build. Asking first is the right behaviour; just know that connections are workspace-wide.
The harder build: Lovable Cloud, then a self-check
Lovable asked one question first (whether to store staff profile data; we chose its default, sign-in only), then turned on Lovable Cloud, its built-in database and login service, and built the Wholesale page and staff inbox. Before handing over, it ran its own check and reported: "Both forms save correctly; staff can read them, while signed-out visitors and non-staff accounts are blocked." It took about nine minutes, including the time its question waited for our answer: the slowest of the three.
Our own check matched. The Wholesale form accepted our test inquiry, and Lovable Cloud's database showed one row in wholesale_inquiries alongside a user_roles table for staff permissions. Opening the admin page signed out redirected to a staff sign-in page with no sign-up link: staff accounts are created by you in Lovable's Users panel, which is a tighter default than an open registration form.
The same panel also holds analytics (with an SEO and AEO filter), payments, emails, a security section and "SEO & AI search" settings, so more of what a small business needs is in one place than with the other two builders.

Pricing and the free plan
Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits, custom domains and no Lovable badge; Business is $50. Lovable's pricing page does not spell out the free allowance. In practice, our first build, one edit and the harder brief left "0.68 free build credits left today", so the free plan is for trying it, not for building a real site in a day.
Who Lovable is for
- Good fit: you care about getting access control right, want built-in database, analytics and payments, and prefer a builder that tells you what it invented.
- Less good: you want the fastest possible turnaround, or plan to build a lot on the free plan.
- Compare: Bolt.new was about three times as fast; Base44 had the most polished design.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lovable free?
Lovable has a free tier with daily build credits; its pricing page does not list the exact allowance. After our first build, one edit and a harder multi-page brief, it showed 0.68 free build credits left today. Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits.
Does Lovable add a login and database?
Yes. For our staff-only admin page it turned on Lovable Cloud, created the tables and a staff sign-in page, and checked that signed-out visitors and non-staff accounts were blocked. Our test inquiry was stored.
Is Lovable secure?
In our test it was the most careful: it verified access rules itself, redirected signed-out visitors away from the admin page, and had no public sign-up for staff. Always review access rules yourself before publishing.
