TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- Most polished design and copy of the three.
- Built pages, sign-in and admin in about 3 minutes; our inquiry was stored.
- Admin page crashed on first preview load, then worked on retry.
- Invented contact details, including a plausible email address.
- Free plan has 25 credits a month; apps stay private until published.
Verdict: Base44 produced the most polished design and copy of the three AI app builders we tested in depth, and it built the harder multi-page brief quickly with a working admin page. Two things to watch: the admin page crashed on its first load in the preview (it worked on retry), and Base44 invented contact details, including an email address on a plausible-looking domain. Tested October 30 and 31, 2026.
How we tested: on October 30 and 31, 2026 we used the free plan in Chrome (US). The builder got the same one-page coffee-roaster brief and edit request as in our six-builder test, then a harder brief: "Add a second page called Wholesale, linked from the navigation, with an inquiry form for cafes (name, business name, email, estimated pounds per month) that saves each submission. Then add staff sign-in with email and password, and a staff-only admin page that lists newsletter signups and wholesale inquiries. Visitors who are not signed in must not be able to see the admin page." We then checked the result ourselves: we submitted a test inquiry, looked for it in the builder's own database or admin page, and opened the admin page signed out. We did not create staff accounts or publish the site. Ember & Oak is a made-up business.

| Wholesale page, sign-in and admin | About 3 minutes; our test inquiry appeared in the admin table |
| Admin page | Crashed on first load in the preview; loaded on retry |
| Public address | Assigned a base44.app address, private until you publish |
| Free plan | 25 message credits a month |
| Cheapest paid plan | Starter $16/month billed yearly, 100 credits |
The first build: the strongest design
Base44 turned the one-paragraph brief into a dark, editorial page with three AI-generated images and confident copy in under three minutes. It checked the page on desktop and mobile and submitted a test signup to confirm the form saved, then removed the test entry. It also added colour we never asked for, such as a "1954 Probat" roaster.
The harder build: fast, with a working admin page
Base44 built the Wholesale page, a /login page with register, forgot-password and reset flows, and a staff-only admin page in about three minutes. It also put a "Staff" link in the public navigation. Staff are invited from Base44's App Users screen as admins, and it noted that "you'll need to publish the app to use the live sign-in URL".
Our test inquiry was accepted and appeared in the admin table with a timestamp. Look at the footer, though: Base44 filled in hello@emberandoak.coffee, a 555 phone number and "since 2016". The email sits on a domain that looks real, so replace every contact detail before you publish.
The crash, and what public means
The first time we opened the admin page in the preview it failed with "Something went wrong" and a JavaScript error. Clicking "Try again" loaded it normally, and it did not recur in our session. In the editor preview you are signed in as the app owner, so we also opened the app's base44.app address signed out: it showed "Ember & Oak isn't available yet" until the app is published. Base44 assigns the address straight away, but nothing is public until you publish.

Pricing, credits and the welcome offer
The free plan has 25 message credits a month. Paid plans are billed yearly: Starter $16 a month for 100 credits, Builder $40 for 250, Pro $80 for 500 and Elite $160 for 1,200. Right after sign-up Base44 showed a 48-hour countdown for 30% off yearly plans; we would not let a countdown decide.
Who Base44 is for
- Good fit: you want the best-looking result from a short brief and a working multi-page app with sign-in, fast.
- Less good: you need everything to work first time, or you will not have time to rewrite invented copy and contact details.
- Compare: Bolt.new stored data with the most careful defaults; Lovable checked its own security.

Frequently asked questions
Is Base44 free?
Yes, Base44's free plan has 25 message credits a month. Paid plans start at $16 a month billed yearly for 100 credits.
Is a Base44 app public straight away?
No. Base44 gives the app a base44.app address immediately, but in our test it showed the app isn't available yet to signed-out visitors until we published it from the builder.
Does Base44 invent details?
Yes. In our test it invented history, a phone number with a 555 prefix and an email address on a plausible-looking domain. Replace all contact details before publishing.
