InVideo AI Free Plan (2026): A Great Script, Then a Paywall

We gave InVideo AI's agent a 15-second promo brief on a free account. It wrote the most detailed script in our test, then said generation is gated on a paid plan, even for one still. The script, the paywall and pricing. Tested October 31, 2026.

InVideo AI Free Plan (2026): A Great Script, Then a Paywall

TL;DR / Key Takeaways

  • The agent wrote the most detailed script in our test.
  • Free plan: no video and not even one still image.
  • Our 15-second build needed about 200 credits.
  • Starter is $10 a month billed yearly for 400 credits.

Verdict: InVideo's agent wrote the most detailed plan in our six-tool test, with timed shots, camera moves and sound for each beat, in about a minute. Then it stopped: on the free plan, "generation is gated on a paid plan", even for a single still image. Use it free as a scriptwriter; to get a video you need Starter at $10 a month billed yearly. Tested October 31, 2026.

How we tested: on October 31, 2026 we gave each tool the same brief on a new free account, in Chrome: "A 15-second promo video for Ember & Oak, a small-batch coffee roaster in Portland, Oregon. Show coffee beans tumbling in a roaster, a barista pouring latte art, and morning light in a cozy cafe. End with the words "Ember & Oak - Roasted slow." Warm, cinematic look." We used each tool's main text-to-video entry point, accepted its suggested defaults, and timed it from submit to a playable video. We did not pay for any plan. Ember & Oak is a made-up business.

A project, a named agent and two questions

InVideo's agent asks two questions before writing: where the video will run, and whether you have brand assets.
InVideo's agent asks two questions before writing: where the video will run, and whether you have brand assets.

Submitting the brief from InVideo's home page asked us to name a project, then to give the agent "a name and a color" and tell it about ourselves. Its first reply compared our brief to Blue Bottle's coffee films. Then it asked where the video would run, which sets the shape, and whether to use our brand assets or "invent the world from the brief". We chose YouTube (16:9) and no assets.

The script: the best plan in our test

InVideo's script: a one-line treatment and four timed beats, each with picture and sound.
InVideo's script: a one-line treatment and four timed beats, each with picture and sound.

The treatment read: "A quiet study in coffee made without hurry. Heat, milk, and morning light do the talking." Four beats followed: beans tumbling in the drum (0 to 4.5 seconds), the latte art pour (to 9), the finished cup by the window (to 12.5), then the end line until 15. Each beat listed a camera move, a lens feel and a sound, such as "Pitcher taps the cup." It chose no voiceover and asked us to approve before it spent credits, which is good practice.

The paywall

After we approved: this needs about 200 credits. Upgrade your plan to continue.
After we approved: this needs about 200 credits. Upgrade your plan to continue.

When we said go, the agent ran a credit check and wrote: "Straight talk: free plan has about 40 credits left." It first planned a cheaper draft, then concluded that "generation is gated on a paid plan" and showed an upgrade card saying the build needed about 200 credits. We asked for one still image of the latte shot instead; it replied that "one still hits the same gate as the full video." Nothing was generated.

Pricing

InVideo's pricing page lists three plans and no free tier. Billed yearly, Starter is $10 a month ($20 month to month) for 400 credits, which InVideo says is about 15 Seedance 2 fast videos, with the Lite agent only. Plus is $30 a month for 2,000 credits and Max is $250 a month for 8,000. During our test the app advertised 55% off annual plans with a countdown timer.

Who InVideo AI is for

  • Good fit: people who want an AI director to plan shots before they generate, and who will pay for Starter or more.
  • Less good: anyone hoping to make a video free; Synthesia and PixVerse both did in our test.
  • Tip: the free script is useful on its own. Paste its beats into a tool with free credits, such as PixVerse.
