TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- CapCut's AI wrote a good four-beat plan for free.
- Rendering 15 seconds needed 20 credits; our account had 0.
- Every free-credit reward said not eligible.
- Dreamina wanted 120 credits for the same 15 seconds.
Verdict: CapCut's AI wrote a sensible plan for our 15-second promo at no cost, then needed 20 credits to render it. Our new account had none, and every free-credit reward we tried was refused. If you can earn or buy credits, CapCut's Video Studio is far cheaper than its sister app Dreamina. Tested October 31, 2026 as part of our four-tool test.
How we tested: on October 31, 2026 we gave each tool the same brief on a new free account, in Chrome: "A 15-second promo video for Ember & Oak, a small-batch coffee roaster in Portland, Oregon. Show coffee beans tumbling in a roaster, a barista pouring latte art, and morning light in a cozy cafe. End with the words "Ember & Oak - Roasted slow." Warm, cinematic look." We used each tool's main text-to-video entry point, accepted its suggested defaults, and timed it from submit to a playable video. We did not pay for any plan. Ember & Oak is a made-up business.

Dreamina: 0 credits and a plan screen
CapCut's text-to-video page sent us to Dreamina. Our account had 0 credits and no credit history. A 15-second clip on Seedance 2.0 Fast cost 120 credits (shown discounted from 210), so pressing submit opened the plan page: Basic $15 a month for 1,575 credits, Standard $36, Advanced $159 and Ultra $520. A Black Friday banner advertised plans "from just $0.29".
CapCut Video Studio: a free plan, then 20 credits
From CapCut's own home page, the same brief opened Video Studio, an agent that wrote a production plan in about 20 seconds: four timed beats from beans to an end card, a narrator, music called "Warm Ambient Breeze" and captions. The beats matched our brief closely. It asked "Does this look good to you?" and when we pressed Start generation, it asked for 20 credits.
The free credits we could not claim
CapCut shows daily tasks worth up to 780 credits, such as 200 for signing up and 50 for chatting with the AI agent. After our chat, that task switched to Claim, but pressing it returned "You're not eligible for this reward at the moment." So did the sign-up reward. CapCut does not say why. Other accounts may be eligible; ours was not.

Who CapCut AI video is for
- Good fit: people already editing in CapCut who will buy credits; 20 credits for 15 seconds is the cheapest render we were quoted.
- Less good: anyone counting on free credits; ours were refused. Synthesia and VEED each made a free video in our test.
