TL;DR / Key Takeaways
- Both Pro plans list at $20 a month, but Vercel charges $20 per extra deploying seat while Netlify Pro includes unlimited members.
- Vercel Pro includes 1 TB of data transfer; Netlify charges 20 credits per GB, so Pro's 3,000 credits equal 150 GB if spent on nothing else.
- At our solo small-app usage both cost $20; with four developers Vercel is $80 and Netlify $20; for a 500 GB content site Vercel is $20 to $40 and Netlify about $80.
- Vercel maintains Next.js and deploys it with zero configuration; Netlify supports Next.js 13.5 and later through the OpenNext adapter with a short list of documented limitations.
- Vercel Hobby is free but non-commercial only; Netlify Free allows 300 credits a month with a hard limit.
Short answer: pick Vercel if you are one or two developers building on Next.js, or if your site moves a lot of bandwidth: Pro is $20 per seat and includes 1 TB of transfer, and Vercel maintains Next.js. Pick Netlify if several people deploy, because Pro is $20 a month for unlimited members, or if you want built-in forms and a managed database. For a solo developer with modest traffic, both cost $20.
How we checked: we read each vendor's pricing page (vercel.com/pricing, netlify.com/pricing), their billing docs and each one's own Next.js documentation, then priced the same workloads on both with our arithmetic shown. Prices checked on each vendor's own pricing page on November 1, 2026. Some links are affiliate links: if you sign up, the vendor may pay us a commission at no cost to you. It never changes our picks.
Vercel vs Netlify at a glance
| Vercel | Netlify | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Hobby: $0, personal non-commercial use only; 100 GB transfer, 1M function invocations, 4 CPU-hours | Free: $0, 300 credits/month hard limit (about 15 GB if all bandwidth) |
| Cheapest paid | Pro: $20/month incl. 1 deploying seat and $20 usage credit | Personal: $9/month, 1,000 credits |
| Team plan | Pro: +$20/month per extra deploying seat; viewers free | Pro: $20/month, unlimited members, 3,000 credits |
| Bandwidth | Pro includes 1 TB; $0.15/GB on demand (iad1) | 20 credits per GB (about $0.13 at the Pro pack rate) |
| Deploys | Builds billed per minute ($0.007/min Basic) from the credit | 15 credits per production deploy; previews free |
| When you exceed | Pro bills on demand; optional pause at a budget | All projects pause unless auto recharge is on |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |
Price at the same usage
We priced three workloads on both Pro plans. Vercel rates are Washington D.C. (iad1); Netlify extra credits are 1,500 for $10, assumed bought as whole packs. Full arithmetic is in our Vercel pricing and Netlify pricing breakdowns.
| Workload (per month) | Vercel Pro | Netlify Pro | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small app, 1 developer: 60 deploys, 60 GB, 300K requests, 150K function calls | $20 (about $1.72 of usage, inside the $20 credit) | $20 (2,285 of 3,000 credits) | Tie |
| Same app, 4 developers | $80 ($20 + 3 extra seats x $20) | $20 (unlimited members) | Netlify |
| Content site, 1 developer: 500 GB, 2M requests, 30 deploys | $20, or $40 if moved to the $20 Flat Rate CDN tier for requests above 1M | About $80 (10,850 credits: 3,000 included + 6 packs at $10) | Vercel |
The free tiers diverge more. The small app above fits inside Vercel Hobby's included amounts, but only if it is non-commercial. On Netlify Free, its 60 GB of bandwidth alone would need 1,200 credits, four times the 300 allowed.
Function-heavy apps are the hardest to compare, because both bill compute by memory over time and real numbers depend on concurrency. Vercel's function pricing docs say provisioned memory keeps billing while code waits on I/O, which is what makes AI features expensive; we wrote up our own experience in my $800 Vercel mistake.
The seat math
Seats are the biggest structural difference. Vercel Pro's $20 platform fee includes one deploying seat, and each extra Owner or Member seat is $20 a month; viewer seats are free. Netlify Pro is $20 a month with unlimited members. Before any usage:
| Deploying developers | Vercel Pro | Netlify Pro |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $20 | $20 |
| 2 | $40 | $20 |
| 3 | $60 | $20 |
| 5 | $100 | $20 |
| 10 | $200 | $20 |
If most of your collaborators only need to view previews and leave comments, Vercel's free viewer seats narrow the gap.
What happens when you go over
The two hosts fail in opposite directions. Vercel Pro keeps serving and bills on demand past the $20 credit; it notifies you at 75% of the credit, and new customers get spend notifications at $200 by default. You can set a Spend Management budget that pauses production deployments, but Vercel checks spend every few minutes, so pausing lags. Netlify does the reverse by default: auto recharge is off, so when credits are used up, all web projects pause and show a Site not available page until you add credits, per its docs.
Neither is wrong. A shop that must stay online wants Vercel's behavior or Netlify with auto recharge on; a side project that must never cost more than its plan wants Netlify's default or a tight Vercel budget with pausing.
Limits that matter day to day
- Vercel Hobby: 200 projects, 100 deployments a day, 2-vCPU builds with 8 GB memory, 1 hour of runtime logs.
- Vercel Pro: unlimited projects, 6,000 deployments a day, builds up to 30 vCPUs, 1 day of runtime logs.
- Netlify Free: unlimited deploy previews; production deploys limited only by credits (20 if spent on nothing else).
- Netlify Pro: 3+ concurrent builds and 30-day analytics and metrics.
Next.js support, per each vendor's docs
Vercel
Vercel's Next.js docs describe Next.js as "maintained by Vercel" and deployment as zero-configuration. ISR pages are cached on the global CDN and persisted to durable storage, Partial Prerendering works through Cache Components in Next.js 16, Image Optimization is on-demand with next/image, streaming works with Route Handlers and React Server Components, and middleware is deployed globally.
Netlify
Netlify's Next.js docs say its open-source OpenNext adapter supports all Next.js versions from 13.5 and lists full support for App Router, ISR, middleware (via Edge Functions), Image Optimization and Server Actions. Documented limitations:
- SSR pages using the edge runtime run in your functions region on Node.js, not at edge locations (Netlify says no functionality is missing).
- Rewrites in Next.js config cannot point to static files in the public directory.
- Headers and redirects are evaluated after middleware, unlike standalone Next.js.
- Node.js middleware does not support C++ addons or the filesystem.
- Netlify Forms needs extra code in Next.js apps.
If you depend on edge-runtime SSR or the limitations above, Vercel is the safer pick. If your app uses mainstream features, Netlify's adapter covers them.

Which to pick
- Pick Vercel if you build on Next.js and want the platform that maintains it, you are one or two developers, or you serve hundreds of GB a month: 1 TB of transfer is included in Pro.
- Pick Netlify if three or more people deploy (one $20 bill instead of $20 each), you want forms, Postgres and blob storage in one place, or you want deploy previews that never cost credits.
- Pick Vercel Hobby for a personal, non-commercial project that needs more free headroom than 300 credits.
- Pick Netlify Free for a small commercial landing page with little traffic, since Vercel Hobby does not allow commercial use.
- Pick neither for long-running servers and workers; Railway or Render run those. More options are in our Vercel and Netlify alternatives guide.

Frequently asked questions
Is Vercel or Netlify cheaper?
For one developer with modest traffic they cost the same, $20 a month on Pro. Netlify is cheaper for teams because Pro covers unlimited members, while Vercel charges $20 per deploying seat. Vercel is cheaper for bandwidth-heavy sites because Pro includes 1 TB of transfer, while Netlify charges 20 credits per GB.
Is Netlify good for Next.js?
Netlify's docs say its OpenNext adapter supports all Next.js versions from 13.5, with full support for App Router, ISR, middleware, image optimization and Server Actions. Documented limitations include edge-runtime SSR running in your functions region on Node.js, rewrites that cannot point to files in the public directory, and headers and redirects evaluated after middleware.
Why do people choose Vercel for Next.js?
Vercel maintains Next.js and its docs describe deploying it as zero-configuration, with ISR pages cached on its global CDN and persisted to durable storage, Partial Prerendering through Cache Components in Next.js 16, and middleware deployed globally.
Can I use Vercel or Netlify free for a business site?
Not Vercel's free plan: its fair use guidelines restrict Hobby to non-commercial personal use, including sites with ads or affiliate links as their main purpose. Netlify's pricing page lists no such rule for its Free plan, but its 300 monthly credits are a hard limit and projects pause when they run out.
What happens when I exceed the limits on each?
On Vercel Hobby, features stop and you usually wait 30 days; on Vercel Pro usage bills on demand unless you set a Spend Management budget with pausing. On Netlify, all web projects pause when credits run out unless auto recharge is on (500 credits for $5 on Personal, 1,500 for $10 on Pro).
Can I move from Vercel to Netlify or back?
Both deploy from a Git repository, so a framework site can usually be connected to the other host and rebuilt. Platform-specific pieces need replacing, such as Netlify Forms, Netlify Database or Vercel Blob and Global Config, so check which ones your code uses first.
