“Fathom has real defensibility because medical coding lives in a trust moat — wrong codes mean denied claims, compliance violations, and audit liability that hospitals won't hand to a generic LLM. They also own proprietary training data (historical coding patterns, payer rules, denial reasons) that improves over time. An LLM alone can code, but it can't bear the liability or learn from your specific payer rejections.
